Netball – gaining traction
Netball is, similarly to basketball, a game involving two teams that aim to throw the ball into the basket of the opposing team. Unlike in basketball, however, the netball basket does not have a backboard. The sport is particularly popular with women and has been gaining traction in recent years. Each team has seven players on the court, and each player's specific position limits their movement to a certain area of the court. A normal game consists of four 15-minute quarters. Netball is played on a rectangular court measuring 30.5×15.25 m (100×50 ft) and divided widthways into thirds (a centre third and two goal thirds). Each goal third features a semi-circular ‘shooting circle’ with a radius of 4.9 m (16 ft). The goal posts are located in the shooting circles. Each team defends one of the shooting circles and attacks the other.
